Merrion's new facility at Citywest officially opened by Minister Harney 29 October 2009

Growcorp the founding Shareholder of Merrion Pharmaceuticals the Irish Stock Exchange listed company today announced it was delighted with the opening by Merrion Pharmaceuticals of it new facility in Citywest.

Merrion was founded by Professor Michael Donnelly, Chairman and Fintan Maher, Managing Director of Growcorp in 2003. Growcorp originally owned 100% of the company, and remains the majority shareholder today.

Commenting on the new facility Fintan Maher, Managing Director of Growcorp said "we initially acquired intellectual property and lab notebooks from Elan in 2003 after 18 months due diligence. There was no business for sale per say when we entered the due diligence room set by Elan to dispose of it Drug Delivery business following its near collapse in 2002. We ended up selecting  certain IP and lab notebooks which we felt could make a business from the large selection for sale. After acquiring the IP and
Notebooks we wrote a business plan and hired in senior management in 2004 and 2005.

Over the years Merrion has raised significant monies and sold down stock, in the early years finding it difficult to attract other VC money, although some did come it at pre-IPO in 2007.  Today nearly 7 years on the founders Growcorp remain very confident that our early vision will continue to create success and we are confident Merrion will produce a stellar return for our investors.

The mutli-million euro deals with Novo Nordisk this year and this new state of the art new facility clearly demonstrate a track record of success. Merrion is clearly the most successful lifescience company to come out of Ireland in the last decade a fact that proves the Growcorp investment model and gives us a lot of confidence going forward."
